i have been very inspired lately by the color schemes, icons and applications of mexican and moroccan art. this began with a recent visit to a store outside the city called nomad - this two-story shop that sells housewares, clothing, books, artwork, and hundreds of handicrafts from other countries - it's like an international bazaar, or street festival or fair, but indoors. just walking around the shop, touching the textiles and staring at the bright colors and how they're interwoven traditionally by different cultures made me interested in the countries and the histories from whence they came. i wanted to buy a book, called "Living in Mexico" in hopes of learning more, but it was too expensive, so I just bought a small hanging tin kiosk lantern for a tea light in my bedroom. so small, and so simple, but so pretty.
.... so i want to think about mexican and morrocan icons and colors and art when i approach the prospect of designing these candles and the gift wrap. i will do some research and try to post some inspiration here.
